*sigh* my powerbook *sigh*

|

well, it came time again to bring my poor booky to the apple store again. here's the current list of issues:

  • it has frozen 3x in the past 2 weeks (both before an after the newest OS update - not including the techtool cd issues)
  • part of the apple logo has what looks like a grease spot inside of it (probably from the display replacement)
  • it wasn't recognizing my onboard bluetooth earlier today
  • it froze each time i tried to boot the applecare techtool deluxe cd

given all of those issues, we got to the apple store, and i explained everything to the tech. this will be repair #6, SO i will be getting a new laptop. he asked what i wanted and i said a macbook pro (since they no longer are making the 15" powerbook)thinking he'd never say yes, but i was wrong. it will take a few weeks, but he ordered a macbook pro for me. once it comes in, i just need to bring my booky back with all of his original stuff. i'll have to buy applecare again, but i will get a partial refund for the existing applecare on the booky that is going back to apple.

from what i've read about the macbook pro, it should be a nice machine. i'm excited about how they've redesigned the power adapters. i'll get a slightly larger HD, a backlit keyboard, a super drive (i have a combo now), and a jump from 1.33GHz PPC to a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo. i will lose my pcmcia slot, the ability to run in classic mode, and my single firewire 800 port, but i don't really use those anyway.

overall, i'm just in shock that they're replacing it. i guess i'm not totally surprised given the number of repairs that it has required recently. wow. i hope the macbook pro isn't too rough around the edges since it's 1st gen. i guess we'll see in a few weeks. the online apple store is showing ship times of 3-4 weeks, so i'm guessing mine will be that same timeframe.
