more dish stuff

my dishes were shipped yesterday, and they are scheduled to arrive here on monday!!!!! in other dish news, i'm almost done with the naturewood listings. i've only got to dinner plates left to list. i just want all of this to be done and gone. we're eating off of paper plates until the new dishes arrive. the solstice plates that i bought off of eBay should be here wednesday or thursday because they're being shipped via priority mail and coming from florida. :)

yay for "new" dishes!

so, ages and ages ago, i had a pfaltzgraff stoneware pattern called solstice. it was a beautiful green with black trim. it wasn't as popular as its sister pattern, midnight sun, which was black with black trim, so it was discontinued fairly quickly. i talk about that old pattern from time to time, but it wasn't until a few days ago that i set out to reclaim them. jodi asked me something about something pfaltzgraff related, then i had a dream about my dishes, so i asked my parents to see if they had them in storage at their house (where they were left when i moved to california in 1998). well, they do. :) in the continued spirit of purging excess stuff, i'm getting rid of all of the billions of naturewood pattern that i don't need/use (with the wonderful assistance of the lovely jodibunny) and will start listing my naturewood place settings shortly. i am quite thrilled. i'll post pictures of the beautiful dishes after they arrive (i hope my parents will send them to me). *crosses fingers* naturewood is insanely popular, so i don't think that there will be the slightest problem eBaying it.

somebody finally fell!!!!!

it's about damn time. i've been waiting for one of the skating with celebrities people to fall. todd and jenny's program was entertaining, but he fell. i wish that debbie gibson had fallen instead. who knows if it will doom them or not... i guess we'll find out in a few minutes!

YES!!!!

the seahawks are going to the super bowl for the first time since they joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1976!!!

my love of the seattle seahawks

a long time ago, my dad used to have season tickets to the dallas cowboys games. the tradition was that the family went to the game on thanksgiving day. i fell in love with the seahawks on 11/27/86 because i loved their helmets. i've loved them when they were good and loved them even when they sucked. now, i'm writing this at the beginning of the 4th quarter of the game that will hopefully launch them to the super bowl for the first time in their franchise history!!! GO SEAHAWKS!

uhm, my cats don't like to have a bath

yup. it sucked. each of them now has a body that is 2/3 clean thanks to 2 pairs of hands, the sprayer on the kitchen sink, and some kitty shampoo we bought at petco. at least it's done with. i've never bathed either of them with water and cat shampoo until today. the kitty wipes are normally good enough, but shadow was just stinky. the bath reaffirmed that zen is a skinny cat. adam will try to post some of the wet cat pics later. HAH. my poor babies. at least they got a nice albacore tuna bribe for forgiveness after the bath was done.

skating with celebrities on fox

damn. i had high hopes that somebody would fall. alas, they did not. the show is crappy, but i am planning on watching it until somebody falls during their program. HAH!

ready to ship!

the few pieces of pfaltzgraff that we listed on ebay ended today. with the help of jodi and supplies from staples, they're all ready to ship as soon as payment received. it feels good to make more room in my cabinets for thing that i actually use (like pyrex).

mat!

jodi and i have tickets to see mat kearney at neumo's on 2/3! YAY!

i'm on a quest

i'm on a quest to find a plain halogen or fluorescent torch lamp that is not all fancy. we found a nice media shelf at target on sale today for like $70, and adam is taking the existing gooseneck lamp to his office. a torch lamp is exactly what we need to brighten up that dark corner. the problem is that target doesn't have any decent ones, fred meyer doesn't have any decent ones, staples was closed, bbb has one that will do if we can't find a better one, and the one we bought from home depot didn't work and the person was rude to adam. sooooooo, we're gonna go to staples tomorrow. if we can't find one there, we'll head back to bbb to buy the crappy one.

buck rogers vs battlestar galactica

yeah, there really is no contest. i watched all of the buck rogers episodes and 3 of the battlestar galactica ones. man, buck rogers was a better show. i think that glen larson finally got the formula right with buck after galactica was canceled. i'll continue to watch the series, but it just kinda sucks. the recycled scenes are amusing though! hahahaha

i don't know if today is a good day or a bad day...

well, i started my day by breaking my pinky toe (at least it feels like it). it sucks... a lot. jodi and i went to lunch and listed some of my surplus pfaltzgraff on ebay since she's awesome at identifying them. we also hooked up with jodi and richard for dinner at las margaritas. after we came home, i watched the last episode of buck rogers and started on disc 1 of battlestar galactica (the old one not the new crappy-ass one). now, *store which will not be named* will probably call me because my foot is killing me.

initial thoughts on the comcast DVR (motorola dct-6412)

we decided to go ahead and upgrade to the comcast DVR service ($10 more a month and it replaces the digital cable box) as the first of many steps toward getting a new tv later this year (i hope). one of the big selling points was that it is a dual-tuner box and that it runs microsoft tv. a quick call to comcast last night and a 15 minute trip to the redmond comcast store later, we got the box home and hooked up. it took a few hours to populate the guide, but it was pretty easy to use from the beginning. we weren't really sure what to expect with this type of box because we knew it wouldn't look/behave like either the media center or the tivo boxes. it has a feel of the media center crossed with directv menus. i would recommend getting the comcast DVR service whether or not you plan on getting a high definition tv as it can be used with either.

likes:
* better looking box than the digital cable box in style and color
* dual tuners
* on demand menus do not suck
* it has a better picture than the old cable box
* i can actually watch stuff in dolby digital 5.1
* microsoft tv

complaints:
* i never really liked the directv menus/guide, so that is one of my biggest complaints (but not really a complaint at all)
* when you hit pause it sometimes takes a second or two to actually pause whereas the tivo and mce pause instantly

got a new toothbrush!

i've never had an electric toothbrush, but i've always seen and heard great things about them. i looked at oral-b and sonicare, but i picked oral-b because of the size of the brush head (they're smaller than the sonicare ones which will reduce the chances of me gagging on my toothbrush). i was at target and saw an oral-b triumph for just about the same price (on sale for $119 plus a $100 MIR) as the 7000 ($99) & 8000 ($119) series after a mail-in rebate, so i figure i might as well get the nicer, newer model if its the same price. it's charging now, so i haven't tried it yet (it has to charge for 12 hours). one thing that is really nice about it is that there are a bunch of different heads that can be used with the toothbrush including one designed for people with braces (so adam can use that after he gets his braces). i'll have to update this post after i try it out.

bestpricecameras.com isn't necessarily the best place to buy something from

my dad placed an order last week for a new tv. bestpricecameras.com charged his credit card on 12/29, and he sent them an email asking for tracking information once he saw that. today, 1/5, he got what appears to be an auto-response message with no tracking information so he called. after getting disconnnected several times and talking to a customer service rep that said he didn't have the shipping information, my dad talked to the salesdude that had helped him previously. the tv shipped yesterday and is scheduled to arrive on 1/11. so, they are slow to ship and the carrier that they use for shipping is scheduled to take a WEEK to get from new york to texas. so, their prices are good but the customer pays the "price" for their "service" and shipping issues. WTF.

UPDATE: jodi read this entry and found a couple of links that point to people with the same experiences from photographyreview.com and resellerratings.com

tragedy at the mine

we were watching the news as they were breaking news that 12 were found alive. we watched for a few hours in hopes of seeing the miners come out and be able to see their families. sadly, we were still watching when they broke news that only 1 of them had actually survived. while it was still a miracle that he survived, i wish that SOMEBODY had told the families that the initial reports were not confirmed and that they were working to confirm it rather than letting it go on for hours. so sad. :(

some of the worst movies ever

here are just a few movies that i think are hideously bad. these are in no particular order, but the thing in common is that they all suck...

mixed nuts
ishtar
sin city (though incredibly well-cast)
napoleon dynamite
sideways
