well, it came time again to bring my poor booky to the apple store again. here's the current list of issues:
given all of those issues, we got to the apple store, and i explained everything to the tech. this will be repair #6, SO i will be getting a new laptop. he asked what i wanted and i said a macbook pro (since they no longer are making the 15" powerbook)thinking he'd never say yes, but i was wrong. it will take a few weeks, but he ordered a macbook pro for me. once it comes in, i just need to bring my booky back with all of his original stuff. i'll have to buy applecare again, but i will get a partial refund for the existing applecare on the booky that is going back to apple.
from what i've read about the macbook pro, it should be a nice machine. i'm excited about how they've redesigned the power adapters. i'll get a slightly larger HD, a backlit keyboard, a super drive (i have a combo now), and a jump from 1.33GHz PPC to a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo. i will lose my pcmcia slot, the ability to run in classic mode, and my single firewire 800 port, but i don't really use those anyway.
overall, i'm just in shock that they're replacing it. i guess i'm not totally surprised given the number of repairs that it has required recently. wow. i hope the macbook pro isn't too rough around the edges since it's 1st gen. i guess we'll see in a few weeks. the online apple store is showing ship times of 3-4 weeks, so i'm guessing mine will be that same timeframe.
well, we got the new tv yesterday. it looks pretty, but i don't think it was worth the money when our old tv was still working just fine. even at that, i still don't think it was worth it. i'm happy that it was purchased with our income tax refund (woo, tv and a perm was what it bought!).
jodi and i went to paule attar where she got a cut/color, and i had jaime re-perm my hair. it had been months and months since it was last done (july), so i was due for it. it's really curly again, so i am pleased. i'll go back in at the end of next month to get it trimmed. it looked like it might need a trim before it was re-permed but it looked great after.
i finally broke down and put the show wonderfalls in my netflix queue after seeing it as a recommendation for months and months. it is absolutely hilarious. i'm not surprised that it didn't make it. i'm a little disappointed that fox only ever aired the first 4 episodes (i think there were 12 made), but at least they figured it out and released all of the episodes on DVD.
i'm not a big winter olympics fan, but i watched it for a little bit earlier. some of the athletes are totally amazing. i can live without every sport at the winter games. i'm more of a gymnastics and equestrian summer olympics fan. it will be cool to see how the games look when the new tv arrives in the next few days. it turns out we were wrong as to when we bought the big wega we have. it was produced in nov 1999, so we probably bought it in dec 1999 or jan 2000. regardless, it has been a long time since we got a new tv.
after the olympics are over, it will be nice to have tv return to normal. it's annoying that nbc is totally rearranging its schedule, but at least the shows i like will be coming back after the break. it's nice that abc is cranking out new shows during the olympics too. it would be very boring if it was re-runs for the duration of the olympics.
my dishes arrived safely today. they are the most hideously overpacked items i've ever seen come out of a ups store, but they are all safe and sound. load #1 is in the dishwasher, and everything for load #2 is set to go in as soon as #1 is done. i had forgotten how much i love this pattern. the individual pieces are a little smaller than the naturewood, but that's just fine with me. :) i'm pretty angry with that ups store for this overpacking job. i can only imagine how much my parents paid for all of this packing material. it's really quite insane. i can absolutely reuse the peanuts and some of the bubble wrap can be salvaged. some of it just got too shredded as i was trying to release its death grip from some of my dinnerware. the boxes are freaking ginormous but they are really nice boxes. hahahah
good - my purging of old dishes continues and my even older dishes arrive on monday
bad - ebay and paypal fees suck
good - i've been able to find boxes that i can use that i already have & lots of people want priority mail which i have usps branded boxes for
bad - i still have to buy packing materials to fill up the boxes after people pay
good - my head hurts a tiny bit less
bad - my head has been killing me for the last week, so i didn't go see mat last night :(
woo! mat kearney is playing at neumo's tonight! yay mat! i dunno if we'll stay for the rest of the show after mat but at least we'll get to see mat!
