favorite movies from childhood

my 20th anniversary monster squad DVD came today. it really got me thinking about some of the other totally crappy movies that i loved as a kid. here are just a few.

the goonies (my favorite of them all)
clue
dragnet
condorman
the private eyes
young sherlock holmes
sixteen candles
pretty in pink
the breakfast club
the neverending story
ghostbusters
weird science
real genius
national lampoon's european vacation
three amigos

as sad as it is, i can totally watch some of these over and over.

goodbye tax refund...

well, we got the new tv yesterday. it looks pretty, but i don't think it was worth the money when our old tv was still working just fine. even at that, i still don't think it was worth it. i'm happy that it was purchased with our income tax refund (woo, tv and a perm was what it bought!).

jodi and i went to paule attar where she got a cut/color, and i had jaime re-perm my hair. it had been months and months since it was last done (july), so i was due for it. it's really curly again, so i am pleased. i'll go back in at the end of next month to get it trimmed. it looked like it might need a trim before it was re-permed but it looked great after.

misc thoughts about the things on tv

i finally broke down and put the show wonderfalls in my netflix queue after seeing it as a recommendation for months and months. it is absolutely hilarious. i'm not surprised that it didn't make it. i'm a little disappointed that fox only ever aired the first 4 episodes (i think there were 12 made), but at least they figured it out and released all of the episodes on DVD.

i'm not a big winter olympics fan, but i watched it for a little bit earlier. some of the athletes are totally amazing. i can live without every sport at the winter games. i'm more of a gymnastics and equestrian summer olympics fan. it will be cool to see how the games look when the new tv arrives in the next few days. it turns out we were wrong as to when we bought the big wega we have. it was produced in nov 1999, so we probably bought it in dec 1999 or jan 2000. regardless, it has been a long time since we got a new tv.

after the olympics are over, it will be nice to have tv return to normal. it's annoying that nbc is totally rearranging its schedule, but at least the shows i like will be coming back after the break. it's nice that abc is cranking out new shows during the olympics too. it would be very boring if it was re-runs for the duration of the olympics.

mat tonight!

woo! mat kearney is playing at neumo's tonight! yay mat! i dunno if we'll stay for the rest of the show after mat but at least we'll get to see mat!

January 23, 2006

somebody finally fell!!!!!

it's about damn time. i've been waiting for one of the skating with celebrities people to fall. todd and jenny's program was entertaining, but he fell. i wish that debbie gibson had fallen instead. who knows if it will doom them or not... i guess we'll find out in a few minutes!

January 18, 2006

skating with celebrities on fox

damn. i had high hopes that somebody would fall. alas, they did not. the show is crappy, but i am planning on watching it until somebody falls during their program. HAH!

January 16, 2006

24

hell yeah! 24 is rockin' so far this year. this has been the best season premiere since season 1. my bunny slippers (zuul and vigo) approve!

January 14, 2006

mat!

jodi and i have tickets to see mat kearney at neumo's on 2/3! YAY!

buck rogers vs battlestar galactica

yeah, there really is no contest. i watched all of the buck rogers episodes and 3 of the battlestar galactica ones. man, buck rogers was a better show. i think that glen larson finally got the formula right with buck after galactica was canceled. i'll continue to watch the series, but it just kinda sucks. the recycled scenes are amusing though! hahahaha

some of the worst movies ever

here are just a few movies that i think are hideously bad. these are in no particular order, but the thing in common is that they all suck...

mixed nuts
ishtar
sin city (though incredibly well-cast)
napoleon dynamite
sideways

a couple of movie reviews: memoirs of a geisha and munich

it's been a busy weekend for movies, so here's my take on 2 of them...

we saw memoirs of a geisha on friday. it was a beautiful movie with the roles well-cast. the sets were beautiful (most were man-made on a lot while some were at japanese gardens), and it was pretty close to the book (from what i remember when i read it a few years ago). my only complaint was that there were a couple of people that talked through the entire movie.

on saturday we saw munich. it is another excellent movie that begins with a horrible event. i think it was also well-cast. watching a strong character sink into paranoia was a moving experience. eric bana was awesome in the role. though i knew it wasn't going to be a happy movie, it so wasn't a happy movie. it was worth the 3 hours that we sat in the theater.

why randal why?

to express my disgust with the apprentice, i have decided to express my disappointment in a different manner!

dear randal,

you played the game with integrity and with respect for others. after you were hired, you showed a totally different side and the audience reacted accordingly. you lost some of that respect that you had worked to hard to earn and keep. encouraging trump to also hire rebecca would have made you look even better. i wonder if people will see you the same way now. you had said many times how great she was, but when you had the opportunity to also see her rewarded, you took all of the glory for yourself. shame on you. that just wasn't right.

THE END

torture

i am being tortured. adam is making me watch the full 12-part r.kelly trapped in the closet video that arrived from netflix yesterday. it's like 40 minutes long. kill me now.

November 18, 2005

buffy box set

i forgot to mention yesterday that my buffy chosen collection box set arrived yesterday. the box was ever-so-slightly smooshed; however, since it got it for $130 instead of $170, i'm not going to worry about dealing with amazon. after all, it's not like i'm going to ebay it or anything. it looks extra cool. the box itself rocks, and it's got some other great extras. it was cool because i got to delete the final episode of season 7 that i've been keeping on the tivo forEVER. :) i also got to delete my fav episode, hush.

November 13, 2005

liz and missy

jodi and i went to see liz phair with missy higgins opening last night at neumo's. it was an awesome show. i did learn that i don't like why can't i? when performed live with a backing band. it's great on the album and acoustic though. missy rocks. i would highly recommend her album, the sound of white, which can be found on the iTMS. i'm glad that it was a non-smoking show. alas, that didn't stop some people which sucked.

it was cool that jodi and i were able to leave the boys home again. we like it more because we don't have to listen to them bitch about it, and they like it more because they don't have to listen to it! so, i guess it all works out well. :)

we did learn a painful lesson. we are old. yes, yes we are. standing for 4 hours makes our old joints hurt. i felt a lot better when i woke up today, but my feet and back were hurting a lot last night. it was absolutely worth it though.

November 9, 2005

bones

i love bones. i hope it is picked up for another season. it's also really bad ass to see somebody on a regular series that i sat next to in spanish class in 9th grade. tj thyne rocks. he was always a nice guy. it was cool to see him in commercials or as an extra, but it's really awesome to see that he's credited as a series regular. go tj!

impossibly cute iPod cases

i found an awesome website, technocutie.com, on boing boing this morning. killer iPod cases.

October 27, 2005

hey jude and sgt pepper

next time you listen to hey jude, pay close attention to the voice in the background (john) at 2:58. :)

sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band (the movie) is weird. i just don't get it.

the apprentice

martha: she needs to kick more ass. she's too soft. i want to see the angry, merlot-demanding martha from the movie.

donald: that was the best freaking boardroom ever. i can't believe he fired *4* people! WTF!!!

October 24, 2005

my fav west wing quote

i wish i could remember which episode this is from. (UPDATE: i just read that the quote is from episode 410-arctic radar). i saw the quote on imdb.

Leo McGarry: Now, please, don't leap into it. Don't...
[Bartlett answers the phone]
President Josiah Bartlet: There are BIG SIGNS. You CAN'T park there. They *should* get towed. I hope they get towed to Queens, and the Triboro is closed, and there's a big craft show at Shea, a flea market or a tractor show.
[Bartlett hangs up]
Charlie Young: Well, that was probably his secretary.
President Josiah Bartlet: Damn it.
Charlie Young: You can bet she'll be parking in a garage though.

re-encoded my music collection

i re-encoded about 270 CDs to change from mp3 to AAC format. it took several days to do it, but it's done now. thank god.

remember the tv movie mr boogedy?

god, that was a funny movie. hahahah

October 20, 2005

fall tv review

west wing has gotten suckier and suckier. it makes me not really want to watch.
law & order ci is a little better since bringing in a bit of "new" blood.
las vegas has gotten suckier and suckier. i'm about ready to stop watching it.
csi miami is great.
medium is not as good as last season, but it isn't bad.
commander-in-chief is good. it's better than the west wing. after all, what would we do without a political drama.
law & order svu is great. i loved mariska's performance a few weeks back.
close to home is good. if i had a job, i wouldn't make time to watch it.
america's next top model is great for some catty comic relief.
lost is amazing.
e-ring is great. i love dennis hopper. the intro is amazing.
apprentice martha is bleh. it has been getting stronger weekly.
apprentice donald is crap. it has been getting worse every week and every season.
alias is awful. i'm about ready to stop watching it.
csi is great.
without a trace is great.
threshold is good. if i had a job, i wouldn't make time to watch it.

alias

i am pleased that they brought the old intro for alias as of last week.

i am displeased that they are bringing in a ton of new characters. WTF. without irina, sydney, sark, and vaughn the show needs to end. it needs to end at the end of this season. LAME!

you know you take TV too seriously when...

... you use hurley's winning lottery numbers from lost to play powerball.

frailty is a disturbing as hell movie

yeah, the title pretty much says it all. it was really good but very disturbing.

October 16, 2005

lost and political dramas

abc is rockin' this year.

we finished off the season 1 DVDs of lost and the first few episodes we tivoed of the 2nd season. i really like the show. i'm glad that we didn't have to wait months to find out what was in the hatch. :) it's really well cast. wikipedia has an awesome entry/series of entries on the show, plot lines, and the characters.

since commander in chief had been getting such good press, i thought i'd watch it. it was decent. with west wing ending, i guess another network needed to pick up a political drama. west wing had a decent episode tonight too. i wasn't the slightest bit surprised that toby with the leak. after all, he had strong feelings because of his brother being an astronaut. the first episode of season 2 also had people that seemed shocked to see toby. there's speculation that bartlet pardons toby as one of the final acts of his presidency. i can totally see that happening. i guess we'll find out later in the season.

podcasting and the new video iPod

i haven't been psyched about podcasting at all. i decided to look through the available podcasts today. some look like they might be interesting. i find that especially true for the few tv show recap/discussion ones. i subscribed to 2-3, so i'll check it out.

now, the new iPod. other than it being thinner, i'm not all that psyched about it. i wouldn't want to watch tv shows on it. it's still all about the music for me. it's nice to have the ability to read my calendar, contacts (which you can't edit), and look at some pictures, but i don't understand the need for video. i just don't get it. even if i hadn't just bought a new iPod last month, i wouldn't rush out and get a video one. it would be more of an option if i was in the market for a first iPod or as a replacement device for a dying unit or non-iPod. maybe i'll change my mind later, but i dunno. i do think that the black iPod is a nice addition, but of course i would think that way since i just bought a U2 because of the black last month. i am a big fan of the color red, so i like the U2's red scroll wheel. i guess they really learned from the feedback from customers on the U2 and the overwhelming demand for the black nano.

October 11, 2005

amazing race: crappy (aka family) edition

it was cool to see them go to the space and rocket center in huntsville. having the opportunity to go to space camp/academy was such an amazing experience. i'm really glad and lucky that i got to do it. they assigned all campers to teams with names that were of some of the companies that worked on the space shuttle. i was on team teledyne brown iirc. rocket park kicks so much ass. it was really amazing to stand at the base of some of those fantastic creations. the centrifuge that they used in this episode was different from the one that we used while i was there. this one is a lot smaller. :)

October 3, 2005

crossing jordan/las vegas crossover shows

yeah, they suck. they sucked the first time. the first one of this pair sucked last night. tonight is the 2nd of the two. dumb dumb dumb

September 29, 2005

best buffy quotes ever

of course both of my fav quotes are both from giles...

giles: "do you like my mask? isn't it pretty? it raises the dead... americans." from the episode "dead man's party"

giles: "i used to be a highly respected watcher and now i'm a wounded dwarf with the
mystical strength of a doily." from the episode "chosen"

amazing race and buffy

ok, i officially do not like the new version of the amazing race. it is lame lame lame. i am displeased with the locations and the fact that the tasks need to be little kid friendly. BLAH!

adam pointed me towards the chosen collection on amazon. it has all of the buffy seasons plus some cool extras. it's in pre-order now, but it really discounted. it's 40 freakin discs.

September 28, 2005

the amazing race family edition

i was doing something when adam was starting to watch the intro. he made some comment about the black family. i thought he meant an african-american family, so i didn't think anything of it until i saw that the black family was an african-american family. ha!

so, my first 10 minutes of watching the show have me with mixed feelings. i think that some of the people are funny as hell, but i'm just not feelin' it. one of the things that i like about the amazing race is the exotic locations. i'm just feeling like this edition will be mostly in north america and big 'ol cities maybe in europe.

i'm going to give it 2 episodes before i decide whether or not to keep watching.

big brother 6 and rock star inxs season finales

big brother was not the slightest bit shocking. i think the most shocking part was that janelle voted for ivette. i am sad that it is over for the season.

now, rock star inxs made me ill. i hate JD. i hate his lounge singery voice and his attitude. i didn't think that marty was right either cause he sounds too nirvanaish. i will not be buying any inxs music now.

suck.

bb6

i've seen a bunch of discussion today about how howie went off on april's family the other day. many people think that was just entirely too funny. i thought the busto nickname was funny, but am i the only one that thinks it is awful that he was insulting her family? i mean, come on. she's there. insult her, sure. she's the one in the game. it is just not cool at all to insult her family. i know it's a game, but that's just not right.

August 20, 2005

4. i wanna be bad by willa ford
5. intuition by jewel

7. love makes the world go round by ashlee simpson
8. not gonna get us by t.a.t.u.

12. send me an angel '89 by real life

15. the boys of summer by the ataris
16. the living daylights by a-ha
17. the wheel by jsm

rock on! now my evil master plan involves subjecting jodi's ears to my lovely new cd in the car tomorrow!!! >:)

August 17, 2005

liz, mat, ebay, and big brother 6

so, the liz phair concert rocked. there were several songs that i had never heard, but i wound up really liking them. the guy that opened for her, mat kearney, was iffy through the first part of his first song, but i loved him. his music is killer. jodi and i bought his CD (and got them autographed) after the show. he says that he plays in seattle pretty often, so jodi and i are absolutely going to see him again. liz should be back here in november, so add that to the calendar of things to do.

i didn't sleep well last night, so i didn't do my video. i did, however, list a bunch of DVDs on ebay. i was going to tradestop them, but ebay would be less time to get them out of my house. :)

i watched the episode of BB6 that aired last night. i'm not terribly shocked that kaysar got put up after rachel won PoV. i wish that james had been put up because kaysar kept the house interesting. i guess we'll see who goes tomorrow night. i bet it will be kaysar. adam will not be happy.

another vh-1 awesomely bad show

we watched the most awesomely bad break-up songs ever today. it had the best commentary of all of the ones that i've seen so far, but it had the least amount of songs that i really like. see the full list below...

star wars episode 3

we broke down and saw it today. it was a lot better than i expected. i still love episode 5 (empire) the most. 3 was great at wrapping up all of the loose ends though.

while we were at the movie, some eBay bidders actually paid! the last few days people have been really lagging at paying up. adam even had to leave negative feedback for one person. oh well, i guess that's all part of being on eBay!

i am considering using some of the eBay money to buy a new smartphone. the audiovox is supposed to be hella cool. it is FAST FAST FAST. :) we will see...

May 19, 2005

the apprentice

you know, i didn't like kendra very much until the last task. i was horrified by how tana treated her team. kendra really shined. i had also been impressed by the whole pontiac brochure earlier too. i am quite glad that she won. :)

vh1's 40 most awesomely bad love songs... ever

ok, so i am sad because i like many of the songs on the list. i also can't find the list online, so here it is before i add the songs to a special playlist for them on my iPod. it might as well considering i have most of them!

now that my playlist is created, i see that i have 27 of the songs (both the main list and viewers poll).

here's what i have:
hero, is this love, you're the inspiration, the search is over, truly madly deeply, heaven, love of a lifetime, i'd do anything for love (but i won't do that), rosanna, i get weak, when i see you smile, oh sherrie, all i wanna do is make love to you, high enough, as long as you love me, all for love, the flame, sometimes, how can we be lovers, the next time i fall, could i have this kiss forever, i want to know what love is, you're in love, hold me now, open arms, glory of love, and waiting for a girl like you

if you want to read the actual list, click the continue reading link below.

yes, i am a tv addict

i was sad that freddy and kendra won the amazing race last night. i would have liked to seen kris and jon win but oh well. i'm psyched that the amazing race will start again in 3 weeks. i don't know how i feel about the people from survivor being on there, i hope that they don't win another million. after seeing alison and donny from big brother, i'm annoyed about the reality show people popping up in other reality shows.

we're now caught up with the oc, and we're ready for the new episode tomorrow evening. man, that show is so evilly addicting.
